Thanks Kathy! They're a favorite of mine too - I love how they tend to announce their presence when they swoop down into the yard, a nice break from those stealthy sparrows and finches!
Thanks Kelly! I just use an ordinary 0.5mm mechanical pencil. I guess it's HB? Just this past weekend, I bought myself some H, B, 2H and 2B 0.5mm leads though, so might actually try using more than one pencil (gasp!) but I'm usually much too impatient to switch back and forth!
Thanks Fraser! Yup, I'm definitely hoping to keep this little bit of momentum going! And I got such a kick out of the poses this guy got into during his preening spree! It was funny though, if I hadn't been watching him, I probably wouldn't have been able to see him - even while preening, just kind of looked like a bump on the branch!
I love Hairy Woodpeckers. Excellent work!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!! I love the softness of your pencil drawings. What lead softness do you use?

ReplyDeleteJust catching up on your blog - you've been very productive! Two very nice drawings, particularly like the pose you've captured in the woodpecker.

ReplyDeleteAnother beauty Nicole. You certainly have a great talent.
ReplyDeleteLove the pose, lovely work Nicole!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mia!
Glad you didn't resist drawing that Nic. The eye is just so good, it looks convexed like a real eye.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roy! I spend a lot of time fussing with the eyes, and usually have to get that right before starting on anything else!
