Drawing - Gray Catbird

.

Gray Catbird - Graphite on Paper
Copyright 2010, Nicole MacPherson

The first and only Catbird I've seen was in my yard.  I love it when a life bird is also a yard bird!

He (?) actually hung around for three days last May, and was most impressed by the oranges we had put out for the orioles.  Sad to say, this year was catbird-less.  Actually, it was also oriole-less.  We had a very early, very warm spring, so maybe they had plenty of natural food and didn't need to lower themselves to handout from needy humans!

Only two weeks since the last drawing!  Wonder how many more I need before I can call it bein' on a roll!

  1. The detail is breathtaking Nic.
If it was the true colours it would be a photograph.
    You are just too good.{:)

  2. Beautiful! The detailed attention you've given to the 'less obvious' areas such as the back and rump make for very life-like feathering.

  3. Thanks Fraser! It was a funny thing, I thought it would be easier since he was "already grey", but I found it was a lot of work to try and keep him from looking flat!

  6. We had catbirds in our backyard for the first time this summer. I love them. Your drawing is so beautiful. I haven't done a full pencil sketch in years...you make me want to jump back in! I really like what you've done.
